Best Wireless Microphones for Apple Android Devices My Top Picks

In today’s video, we explore the world of wireless microphones designed for mobile content creators. If you’ve been struggling to find a microphone that works well with your Apple or Android devices, you’re not alone. In this blog, I’ll walk you through my journey with various microphones, share my experiences with different options, and provide a recommendation for a great mic that won’t break the bank.

My Microphone Journey

Over the last two years, I’ve been searching for the perfect microphone to improve the audio quality of my videos. I started with wired microphones, but I kept running into issues. Despite using genuine adapters and high-quality cables, the sound would always pick up from the device’s built-in mic rather than the external one. Frustrated, I decided to try wireless microphones and, while some of them performed well, many were prohibitively expensive.

So, I embarked on a mission to find a great microphone that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. After much trial and error, I finally found a wireless microphone under $20 that met all my needs. Let’s dive into the details of the mics I tested, starting with the first one.

Wireless Microphone #1: Affordable but Simple

The first wireless microphone I tried comes in a simple box. Although I couldn’t find the vendor’s name, I noticed it has a common design seen across various similar microphones on Amazon. You’ll know you’re getting the right one by its shape, which remains consistent across different brands.

I tested it with my iPhone, and here’s what I noticed:

  • No Adjustments: I kept the audio raw without any changes to volume or normalization so you can judge the sound quality for yourself.
  • Sound Quality: The microphone worked well but didn’t include any noise-canceling features, despite advertising that it did. This became evident when background noise like birds and my son riding his bike became more noticeable.
  • Range: I tested the microphone’s range by stepping about 10-15 feet away, and it maintained decent quality, so the range isn’t an issue.
  • Design: The microphone comes with a nice case, a USB-C charging port, and a power button. The receiver also connects via USB-C, which is convenient for both Android and Apple users (with a Lightning adapter).

While it didn’t provide noise cancellation, the microphone offered a solid wireless experience for the price.

Wireless Microphone #2: Wind Noise Problem

Next, I tried a microphone that looked much nicer and had a very attractive case. It also seemed promising with its design, but after testing it, I noticed one major flaw: it picked up wind noise extremely easily. Living in an area with unpredictable weather and occasional gusts of wind, this was a deal-breaker for me.

Additionally, while it had a special stereo mode (activated by pressing the mic three times), it was still highly sensitive to environmental sounds, making it less useful in windy conditions.

Despite these drawbacks, it worked well in calmer conditions and featured a mute function for convenience.

Wireless Microphone #3: Noise Cancelling and Great Sound

After searching for a microphone with better noise-canceling capabilities, I found one that delivered excellent results. This mic has a dedicated noise-canceling mode, activated by pressing a button. The sound quality improved significantly, and the wind noise issue was resolved.

  • Noise-Canceling Mode: Once activated, it effectively blocked out background noise.
  • Sound Quality: When I tested it outside, even with my son riding his bike nearby, the mic picked up clear, crisp audio. The range was similar to the previous mics, and I could walk 10-15 feet away without losing audio clarity.

This microphone also included foam tips for wind protection and worked seamlessly with both iPhones and Android devices, thanks to its USB-C charging support.

Wireless Microphone #4: The One with a Fatal Flaw

The final microphone I tested seemed promising at first. It had noise-canceling capabilities and a small, compact design, but it came with a significant drawback. The microphone’s receiver would disable all audio playback if I received a phone call while recording. This was a huge problem, as I once thought I had recorded a full video, only to realize that I had missed part of the content because the receiver had turned off.

  • Noise-Canceling Mode: Activated by a button, this mic worked well at reducing ambient sounds.
  • Design: The receiver was small but didn’t come with a case, making it easy to lose. Additionally, its lack of charging support through a case made it less convenient compared to other models.

Final Thoughts: My Top Recommendation

After testing multiple microphones, I can confidently recommend the third microphone I tried. This mic stood out due to its:

  • Noise-Canceling Technology: It worked effectively in windy environments and reduced unwanted background noise.
  • Solid Sound Quality: I was impressed with its audio quality, especially during outdoor shoots.
  • Convenience: It included a case, had a USB-C charging port, and offered good range.

Best of all, it’s affordable, and you can find it on Amazon. I’ll leave a link to this microphone in the description box below, along with links to the other microphones I tested.

Conclusion

If you’re new to content creation and want to upgrade your audio quality without spending a fortune, I highly recommend giving wireless microphones a try. After years of dealing with poor sound quality, I’m thrilled to finally have a solution that works well for both indoor and outdoor shooting.
