Today, I’m working with a Jeep Gladiator and testing the effectiveness of bypass cables for the FCA SGW (Secure Gateway) 12+8. These cables are designed to avoid the $50 annual fee required to access the vehicle’s diagnostic functions. In this article, I’ll walk you through the process of connecting these bypass cables and show you how to locate the security gateway in your vehicle. Watch the full video HERE
When I attempted to scan the Jeep Gladiator with my device, I encountered a signup screen that requested a paid subscription. To bypass this, I decided to test the bypass cables that claim to allow access without the annual fee. Here, I’ll show you how to connect the cables and locate your vehicle’s gateway. Even if you don’t have a Jeep Gladiator, this information will still be useful, as I’ll include a link where you can find the security gateway location for other vehicles.
Locating and Accessing the Security Gateway
Accessing the security gateway on the Jeep Gladiator is straightforward. First, you need to remove a panel that can be easily pulled out from the bottom. There are six clips holding it in place, but no tools are required to remove them. I’ll provide a link with detailed information about locating the security gateway in other vehicle models.
With the cover removed, the gateway is clearly visible. Next, I removed the two harnesses connected to the gateway and plugged them into the bypass cable. I used a small pick to assist with this process. Once the cables were unplugged, I connected the bypass cable to my scan tool, a Launch x431 Pro Elite.
Testing the Bypass Cable
With everything connected, I initiated a scan using the Launch x431 Pro Elite tool. I was curious to see if the bypass cable would work. As I navigated through the prompts, I reached the usual login screen. However, when I clicked “skip” with the bypass cable installed, I received a different message, indicating that the bypass was successful.
I proceeded to perform a system scan and selected the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) actuation tests to see if I could control various functions, such as turning on the radiator fan. To my excitement, the fan started spinning, confirming that the bypass cable worked perfectly!
Conclusion and Pro Tips
I’m genuinely impressed with the effectiveness of these bypass cables for the FCA SGW 12+8. They allow access to the vehicle’s diagnostic functions without requiring the annual fee. As a pro tip, you can secure the cables in place to avoid having to remove and reinstall them every time you need access.
Overall, I’m thrilled with the results of this test, and I can confidently say that these bypass cables do work as intended.
